God’s love is not only unwavering but also unconditional, a love that nothing can separate us from. So, when confronted with troubles, remember, if God is on our side, who can stand against us? This assurance of His love should bring you comfort and security in the midst of your hardships.
“God, who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not give us all things by His grace? So, who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies, so who then is the one who can condemn? No one. Christ Jesus, who died for us, more than that, who was raised back to life, is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”(v.32-34)
Do you ever think that because you are not good enough for God, He will not save you? Do you ever feel like salvation is for others but not you? I have, and if you have ever had any thoughts like that, then these verses from Romans 8, which were written to reassure and encourage believers facing hardships and doubts, are for you, too. You see, God gave His Son for us, and He will not hold back the gift of salvation from us. And since Jesus gave His life for you and me, He is not going to turn around and condemn us. He will not withhold anything we need to live for Him if we believe. In these verses, Paul says that Jesus intercedes for us in heaven. God has acquitted us and removed our past, present, and future sins and guilt, so it is satan, not God, who accuses us to condemn us. When he does, remember that Jesus, the advocate for our defense, stands at God’s right hand in our place.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake, we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anyting else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (v.35-39)
These verses contain one of the most comforting promises in all of Scripture. Whether you’re facing hardships, persecution, illness, or even death, you may fear that you have been abandoned by God. But Paul explains that it is impossible to be separated from Christ. Nothing can stop His constant presence with us. God is telling us how great His love is so that we can be totally secure in Him. In all this, we can confirm God’s profound love for us. No matter what we have done, been through, or what has happened to us, we can never be lost to His love. So when the trials and sufferings of life do come, they should not drive us away from God but help us draw closer to Him, identify with Him further, and allow His love to reach us and heal us. His love is a balm for our wounds, a source of strength in our weakness, and a beacon of hope in our darkest moments. Surrendering to God’s love is the most powerful thing we can do in this life.
