Truth is demanding.
For many, what you see is different from what you get.
That is why social networking sites are effective, widespread, and growing in today’s society. On the other hand, social media has become so lopsided and temporary, which is why I see that so many find what, at the time, the belief is comfort and fulfillment because it demands no truth with the perception that we are free of responsibility, to live with no barriers of limitations or morals. The ability to hide behind whatever identity we create can leave us empty, continually trying to show and tell rather than working to become and sharing that to edify and uplift others.
Consider this: is social media, with its constant stream of curated content, keeping us from reaching true fulfillment in life? For instance, the pressure to maintain a particular image or the continuous comparison with others’ seemingly perfect lives can be detrimental to our self-actualization. And, is it hindering our journey toward self-actualization?
To try to show everything as confirmation rather than working at becoming all that we can be. Whereas now we don’t have control over becoming, social media does; it’s our self-fulfillment.
It’s a paradox, indeed. We yearn for self-fulfillment, yet we find solace in the anonymity and distortion that social networking platforms provide. This paradox is the very reason why these platforms are so popular and effective. But we must pause and reflect: is this a sustainable path to self-fulfillment? Are we truly fulfilled, or are we merely chasing the fleeting validation that social media offers?
