Bible, Spirit, Life: Daily Words to Move You: “In Him We Are Forgiven”

“In Him We Are Forgiven”

“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.”

— 1 John 2:1-2 (NLT)

The Comfort of Christ’s Advocacy

We all fall short. At some point, we all miss the mark—whether through our thoughts, words, or actions. But in the verses above, the Apostle John delivers a message of deep comfort and assurance: we have an advocate. His name is Jesus.

In a world that often highlights our flaws, failures, and regrets, God reminds us that grace and redemption are always available. Jesus Christ stands in our place, not as a condemner, but as one who pleads on our behalf, reminding the Father that His sacrifice covers our every sin. This is the heart of the gospel: forgiveness is not earned—it’s received.

Confession: The Pathway to Renewal

“If we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”

— 1 John 1:9

God doesn’t ask us to hide our brokenness. He invites us to bring it to Him. The act of confession isn’t about shame—it’s about freedom. It’s the doorway to restored relationships, healed hearts, and renewed purpose.

Confession is powerful because:

  1. It opens our hearts to God’s grace. We acknowledge our need and lean into His mercy.
  2. It frees us from guilt and shame. When we bring our sin into the light, the weight of hiding it is lifted.
  3. It aligns our hearts with truth. We agree with God about what is right and what is wrong—and we choose to walk in a new direction.

True confession is not just about saying “sorry”; it’s about turning away from sin and turning toward God with sincerity. It’s about asking for strength, not just to be forgiven, but to overcome.

Genuine Repentance and Transformation

Let’s be honest: God sees our hearts. If we confess only to relieve guilt without the intention of changing, we’re not truly surrendering. However, when our confession is accompanied by a desire to grow, God honors it deeply. He gives us the strength to resist the next time temptation comes.

To live forgiven is to live transformed. And transformation begins when we:

  • Acknowledge our sin and ask for His help to turn away from it.
  • Stop justifying or excusing our actions.
  • Recognize that we can’t change in our strength—but He can change us from the inside out.

How Do We Receive This Forgiveness?

God’s promise of forgiveness is real, personal, and available today. Here’s how we walk in it:

  1. Humbly tell God you are truly sorry. Be honest about your sin and your desire to change.
  2. Receive His forgiveness through Jesus. Trust that what Christ did on the cross was enough.
  3. Commit your life to Him. Let His Spirit guide your steps from this day forward.
  4. Thank Him. Express your gratitude for a gift we could never earn but have freely received.

A New Day of Freedom and Fellowship

When we walk in God’s forgiveness, we don’t just get a clean slate—we get closeness with Him. Shame no longer has the final word. guilt no longer keeps us bound. Through Christ, we are cleansed, renewed, and free.

Let this be your new day—a day marked not by your past, but by the grace that covers it.

So, if you’ve been struggling, if there’s something heavy on your heart, don’t wait. Come to Jesus. Open your heart. Receive His forgiveness. And step into the freedom of a restored relationship with the One who loves you most.

Reflection Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being my advocate. I come to You today with an open heart, confessing my sin and receiving Your forgiveness. Strengthen me to turn away from anything that separates me from You. Fill me with Your Spirit so I may walk in Your truth, love, and freedom every day. Thank you for making all things new. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
